A waterfall today, but tomorrow... ?!

Posted by
Mithun Varma (Bangalore, India) on 24 October 2009 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

The Athirappilly waterfalls, Kerala, India. This beautiful falls will be coming to an end very soon. A proposed hydel power project will see to the end of this beauty. :(

There is a group of acitivists who stand for the protection of the river and the wild life in the forests surrounding this river. Please read more about this effort here. Please support this good cause!!

This shot was taken during the summer season when the water was scanty. The falls attain its full beauty in the rainy season!

ashwin from hyd, India

Nice one...not familiar with the conventional aesthetics of photography... but thought the grass in the foreground injected a bit of personality into it :)

@ashwin: Thank you Ashwin! Even I am not familiar with the conventional aesthetics. Thought the grass would look good in the foreground and to my eyes it looked pretty fine. Had taken a shot without the grass. I liked this one and so went ahead posting. Good to know that you also liked it this way :)

Ravi from Bangalore, India

Nice gushing pic :) I also liked the shiny grass on the foreground ;)

Raghu from India

nice pic valyetta.u could have given some more details.or could have given a link of chalakudy puzha samrakshana samiti.(get it from my father).one more thing ,this hydo electric proposal will not come into being as we stand together against this dam (killer of many wild animals).also accept my thanks for posting this photo which gives a boost to the activists who are fighting to save this beauty.

26 Oct 2009 2:15pm

@Raghu: Thanks Raghumaash. I thought of putting the link ( http://chalakudyriver.org/ ), but the domain has expired. Anyway I am adding another link which I found now. And lets stand for the cause and see to it that the waterfalls and the wild life survives :)

3 Nov 2009 9:50am

@Sarito: Thank you Sarito!

Anita Bower from United States

I like the angle of view you chose, with the green grasses in the foreground, the brown and white falls in the middle and the blue sky above. The trees nicely pick up the green.

sakshi from Boston, United States

Don't know what's wrong with people who want to have a dam over such a natural beauty? Nice shot and I liked the way you have included the grass

13 Nov 2009 3:09pm

@sakshi: A dam would let authorities to make money hand over fist. I guess that would be the motivation rather than development and electricity generation!

Thank you for the visit and comments!
